CFP: Internet in Southeast Asia Symposium

Monash University is hosting the inaugural Internet in Southeast Asia symposium December 3-4, 2015. They have a call for papers for the symposium and submissions are due July 15, 2015. They would like submissions to highlight one of the key questions in social research of how the Internet relates to its influence on existing power relations, whether or not they are changing, and the effects of these changes. Another important topic to discuss is the word “power” and how it can be broadly interpreted and applied to a variety of contexts. The Internet can play an influential role in the dynamics of democracy, press freedom, activism, and political campaigns. Power can also be seen in economics, where digitally based small-scale businesses emerge as effective competitors, and the divisions between producers and consumers seem obscured.
