Gaming Religionworlds: Why Religious Studies Should Pay Attention to Religion in Gaming

The Journal of the American Academy of Religion recently released a new article that focuses on religion and gaming. The purpose of the article is to show how important it is for religious scholars to study religion in gaming and that religion plays a prominent role in gaming culture. When studying religion and gaming, it is important to reflect on the past history, gender roles, stereotypes, rituals, and practicing religion. All of these different aspects play a part in how religion affects video games and it is important to have different scholars who specialize in history, gender and cultural studies, ritual studies, and sociology to help with this research. With this information, religious studies scholars can help discover the implications gaming culture has on society and also focus on how people perceive religion.
