Facebook Tells Priest to Lose his Title on his Profile

Very recently, Facebook contacted Monsignor Charles Pope and told him he would need to change his name on his Facebook profile. He had joined Facebook six years ago and had used the name "Monsignor Charles Pope" because he is a Catholic priest and most people refer to him as "Monsignor." It is a frustrating situation for him to be in since Facebook contacts users about these types of issues when someone has flagged a person’s profile. “I just think it’s incredibly foolish on their part to try and treat people this way. I can understand if people have something ugly or nefarious or scurrilous in their name,” Monsignor has said. He has been very vocal about this issue and feels that Facebook is abusing its power. He decided to change his cover photo so that it has Monsignor Charles Pope in it since he now must go by “Charles Pope” on Facebook.
