Currently working as a research fellow at Hampshire College's Center for the Study of Science in Muslim Societies. We are studying online videos that integrate discussions of "Islam" (however one would like to define that) and natural sciences, especially biology (think evolution, embryology), astronomy (think big bang, cosmology), and the environment. Right now we're just working on videos in (or subtitled in) English, but we hope to expand the language set in the future. We're working with analyses of the videos, examinations of who the speakers are, and analyses of the networks through which the videos disperse.
I have a PhD in Islamic Studies from the University of Michigan (2006). I was a computer programmer (doing computer-based instruction at the University of Delaware) way back before I got serious about college.
