CALL FOR PAPERS: PUBLIC THEOLOGY FOR DIGITAL SOCIETY

CALL FOR PAPERS: PUBLIC THEOLOGY FOR DIGITAL SOCIETY

A Symposium at Cranmer Hall, Durham University, 16-17 April 2020

This symposium explores the public voice of theology in increasingly digitalized societies. Today, no sphere of human life has been left untouched by the digital revolution. While digital technology holds tremendous potential for furthering the common good, the negative socio-political impacts and challenges associated with it are becoming all too apparent. Given the ubiquity of digital technology and all the changes it brings with it, there is a growing consensus that thoughtful ethical and moral reflection is imperative for the future of humanity. The Public Theology for Digital Society Symposium sets out to explore the contribution of theology to these important conversations on digital technology, culture, society and politics.

We welcome short papers of no more than 20 minutes within the scope of the conference theme, spanning topics such as:

-AI, robots and automation
-Transhumanism and theological anthropology
-Humane technology
-The role of theology in digitalized societies
-Social media and digital communications
-Surveillance, privacy and big data
-The tech industry and capitalism
-The internet, politics and democracy
-The internet of things
-Ecology, environment and climate change

Potential speakers should submit a 250-word abstract and a one-page CV to jonas.kurlberg@durham.ac.uk by Friday 17th January 2020.
