Rajasthan police seeks Internet ban to maintain communal harmony

After having issues with inflammatory messages and pictures being posted on social media, the Rajasthan police have decided to ban the Internet in a village, town or district as needed. They believe that these issues have disturbed the communal harmony. This past Saturday, a meeting was held where the home department asked the police authorities to make sure that social networking apps and websites do not interfere with the communal harmony in the state. Gujarat government had made a decision to suspend mobile Internet services across the state in September after there were several cases of communal clashes. In the town of Tonk, people of the Muslim community had yelled slogans and submitted a memorandum to the SDM on the alleged anti-religious post. At that time, four young people were arrested for allegedly shouting slogans in support of Islamic state.
