  • American Religious Sounds Project Request for Proposals

    The American Religious Sounds Project and the Center for the Study of Religion are seeking proposals for research grants of $10,000 to distribute to those with research projects related to the study of religion and sound. Some of the questions that the research projects may address include, What does religion in North America sound like, and where should one go to listen for it? What are the different ways that religious individuals and communities learn to listen and make themselves audible--to each other, to their gods, and to others?

  • Punk and the Sacred Symposium Seeking Abstracts

    The Punk Scholars Network is holding a 2 day symposium in Lincoln, UK, with the theme of Punk and the Sacred. They are interested in asking questions about aspects of punk as potentially being sacred. Areas such as record collecting, fandom, punk icons, DIY ethics, ritualized performances and actions, and the sound(s) of punk as sacred. Abstract submissions can be in any format, up to 400 words.

  • Hiring Assistant Professor of Religion in the Americas

    The University of North Carolina Greensboro is seeking applicants for an Assistant Professor of Religion in the Americas. Some areas of interest may include diasporic communities, religious diversity, digital religions, gender, and/or popular culture. Review of applications will begin on November 11, 2019 and continue until position is filled. Candidates must hold or anticipate a Ph.D. in Religious Studies or a related discipline by August 1, 2020.

  • Reviews of Holy Sites are Wildly Inflated

    According to an article from "The Conversation", many reviews of Mecca's accommodations, stores, and restaurants have much higher ratings than actually expected. For instance, Mecca's sites have an average of 4.96/5 stars in TripAdvisor. Not only are Mecca's sites inflated, but also many other religious sites. After analyzing these ratings, it was determined that ratings for Holy Sites are so high because they reflect one's spiritual experience, not trivial matters such as crowds, weather, etc.

  • Muslim Research Fellow Position Available!

    The Centre for Muslim-Christian Studies is seeking applicants for a full-time Muslim Research Fellow position, based in Oxford. This 3 year contract would start on October 1, 2019. The Research Fellow will conduct research in the area of Muslim-Christian studies, either theological, historical or sociological. The main aim would be to produce a high-quality monograph on an area of the candidate’s choosing in discussion with the Centre for Muslim-Christian Studies.     Emory University is seeking a Project Digital Asset Librarian for a 2-year contract position. Reporting to the Curator of Archives and Manuscripts, the Project Digital Asset Librarian (PDAL) will serve as the project leader on a 2-year project focused on curating and presenting the digital assets of Pitts Theology Library.
