Markus Altena Davidsen

Bio Statement: 
Markus A. Davidsen got his MA in the Study of Religion from University of Aarhus, Denmark in 2008. During the MA, he had spend a semester as an Erasmus student in Heidelberg, Germany, where he was introduced to religion online. For his master thesis on Jediism (which he begun in Heidelberg) and for sharing what had learned in Heidelberg back home by co-teaching an elective subject on Religion and Modern Media, he was awarded the Arenberg-Coimbra Prize for Erasmus Students. Since January 2009, Markus has been working on a PhD project on Fiction-Based Religion (especially contemporary religious bricolage based on J.R.R. Tolkien's literary mythology) at the University of Leiden, Netherlands. The project will be finished in 2012. Since August 2011 he also teaches courses on sociology of religion and new religious movements in Leiden.
