Philippians 4:8

Hey Christian Girl

These memes utilize humor and sarcasm in order to convey the stereotypes that Christianity has accumulated in today's society, especially in regards to Christian woman and their particular attitudes and actions concerning relationships.

If you didn't click like, are you actually a Christian?

This meme specifically refers to the critique of modern times and popular culture. With more social media websites available than people know what to do with them, there has been an ongoing occurrence of pictures like the one depicted above. The text in the Facebook picture reads, “LIKE if you believe in Jesus, ignore for hell…” The text references the belief in Jesus, however because of modern technology some creators feel that if you don’t like a certain picture then you aren’t willing to profess your love for Christ in front of others.

Little Kid Conquers Boogey Man

In this meme the author relates with everyone, even outside the Christian community, by relating an event that most readers have experienced when they were younger to that of the Christian belief. The author uses pathos to tug at the reader’s emotions by reminding them of an occurrence that caused them to be scared of the “unknown.” The message of putting one’s trust in God can be effectively shared, because it can relate to everyone and not just those within the community.

Blood and Body of Christ

The process of accepting a higher prophet can seem intimidating to those who don’t understand the specific religion. The way this meme appeals to outsiders is by taking the most important belief; the acceptance of Jesus Christ, and makes it seem not as overwhelming. Food is a factor that appeals to a lot, especially when it is free. The way the Christian community is able to effectively use this meme is correlating this belief with a successful outcome of food.

Derivative 3: Homosexuality

This meme directly addresses the contradictions between what the Bible says and how Christians tend to act. The argument that homosexuality is explicitly forbidden in the Bible is one that Christians tend to side with. However, when it comes to the wrongness of bacon, Christians don't have a tendency to uphold the Bible's word. This is a direct and negative criticism of Christianity.

Derivative 2: Word of God

By underlining the period of time and the language barrier that accompany the Biblical translations that Christians follow today, this meme is suggesting that one cannot know for sure what the original text truly said. Furthermore, it is suggesting that because of this, the teachings and rules should not be taken seriously (or, perhaps, followed at all).

Derivative 1: Matthew 7:1-5

By poking fun at the aforementioned Bible verse, this meme is making a comment that a majority of Christians (or the majority that the meme creator has encountered) do not in fact subscribe to this "rule." It is a jab at their perceived propensity to condemn those who are non-Christian or those who fail to "act" in a Christian manner.
